Om oss

Lyske Gais and Lia Duinker create new analogue works of art from digital collections. Digital collections have become an integral part of our lives, from the photos on your phone to museum collections. These bits and bytes make them tangible in a new art form.

For example, the  Amsterdam Rijksmuseum’s digital concept known as Rijksstudio became the foundation for the Boekarmband [Book Bracelet], which turned a sizeable yet specific selection of etches by Rembrandt van Rijn into jewellery. The Collier van hondjes [Collar of dogs] is a comparable, story-telling concept that encompasses the large number of Rembrandt’s dogs in a gem of a miniature publication.

Digital presentation of archives has become an important theme, but it may be equally important to present all of that digital material in a tangible and appealing way to a broad – or perhaps a very specific – audience. With a background in architecture, art, design, data science and manual bookbinding, Lyske Gais and Lia Duinker have got what it takes to continue presenting many more digital worlds in surprising ways.
